Ericsson:- I worked both in Older Monolithic GMSC and the new Mobile Switching Servers and Blade Clusters and looking forward for DB60. First about the Ericsson Systems they have single application Winfiol on which we can work on the Resource (i.e. Actual E1s and STMs in case of Monolithic and Logical E1s in case of Soft Switch). We can work on the call routing Part we can Monitor the Alarms of the System and also we can create Trunk Groups (for Both Case Monolithic and Soft Switch) where in you can create the Database like the Signaling Links (Incase of Monolithic Sig. Links are created in MGW in case of Soft Switches) and the RC (Routing Case) where in the TGs are defined and the levels or the numbers are routed to the Destination. In Softswitch the part of Sig Link creation as well as the E1s need to be defined and the Physical Connections need to be checked. Also prior to Sig links the Sig Routes and the Point Code definition needs to be done in MGW as well.
Hence incase of Soft Switch the Logical Part of the E1s have there mapping on actual E1s in MGW. Also the control part is taken care by the MSC Server.
